A Guide to Ventilation Fans for Your Corpus Christi Home

March 4, 2014 | Blog

Ventilation exhaust fans are a relatively new part of HVAC systems because they werenโ€™t needed before todayโ€™s modern highly-insulated homes. Ventilation fans provide much needed air circulation to improve the indoor air quality of your home.

What are they and why they are needed?

Insulation is common practice to reduce heat (or cooling, as in the summer) loss in a home. Sometimes, in newer homes especially, the insulation is so good that there is not enough air circulation throughout your home and to the outdoors.

When you have poor air circulation, harmful microorganisms in the air, like mold and bacteria, canโ€™t escape and can damage your health. On top of that, mold spores can accumulate and grow in moist places like the bathroom, which could lead to costly home repairs.

Mechanical ventilation can provide sufficient air circulation and exchange, and is attained by installing exhaust fans in various places throughout your home. They are relatively cheap and easy to put in, so they wonโ€™t typically offset the savings from the initial installation.

Types of fans

There are many types of exhaust fans designed for different purposes; the following are the most common:

  • Ceiling-mounted fans

  • Inline exhaust fans

  • Wall-mounted fans

  • Combination exhaust fans

  • Exterior-mounted ventilating fans

  • Kitchen range fans

Each of these types of fans has specific uses, and the best one(s) to use in your home will depend on your exact needs. Itโ€™s best to consult with an HVAC professional to determine your ventilation needs and the best way to meet them.

Beyond theย type and model of fan(s) to install, an HVAC consultant will be able to help you pick the right size and specific location in your home.
