How to Maximize Room-by-Room Energy Efficiency

March 13, 2018 | Blog

How to Maximize Room-by-Room Energy EfficiencyYou monitor your thermostat settings to save energy, but your energy bills are still too high. Does this sound familiar? If you are perplexed how to reduce your home’s energy consumption, take it room by room. Following is a practical room-by-room guide how you can boost your home’s energy efficiency and plug into real savings.

Kitchen

Kitchens are filled with appliances–big and small. So, there’s plenty of ways to save energy.

  • Microwaves: Use the microwave for cooking when possible. It cooks the fastest and most efficiently.
  • Toaster ovens: Use your toaster oven in lieu of your full size oven.
  • Refrigerator: A full refrigerator uses less energy.
  • Dishwasher: Only wash full loads of dishes, and use energy-saving settings.
  • Energy Star: Select Energy Star-qualified appliances when it’s time to upgrade.

Bathrooms

More than half of the average home’s water usage occurs in the bathroom. So, there’s plenty of room to save energy and water.

  • Water heater: Water heaters use approximately 17 percent of the average home’s energy. Schedule annual service, and upgrade to Energy Star-qualified water heaters when it’s time.
  • WaterSense: Upgrade to WaterSense fixtures.
  • Lighting: Use LED lighting in the bathroom and vanity area.
  • Fan: If your bathroom fan is overly noisy, it could be time for a new one. Look for the Energy Star label.

Bedrooms

Do you keep your bedroom door closed at night for privacy? If you do, consider installing transfer grilles in the door or wall to allow free airflow from the central air system. During hours everyone is sleeping, adjust the thermostat settings up/back as much as you can comfortably bear during the summer and winter seasons.

Laundry Room

The clothes washer and dryer in the average home use a lot of resources. Only wash full loads of clothes and use the “cold” water setting. Dry clothes outdoors when you can, and always clean the lint dryer for better clothes drying and safety.

Remember, improving home efficiency doesn’t mean a reduction in service. It simply means modifying habits to improve energy efficiency and, in fact, boost service in many instances. To learn more, contact CCAC today.

Great company. Contacted my current AC company to check on my warranty before charging me anything. Saved me a bunch of money and headache if dealing with anything. Would definitely recommend them and use them again.
