Even This Mild TX Climate Calls for Routine Furnace Maintenance

January 2, 2014 | Blog

Texas has hot summers and mild winters compared to other places in the country, leaving some homeowners concerned with energy costs to argue the necessity of having a routine maintenance on their heating and cooling systems. Even in areas that don’t typically have frigid winters, regular furnace maintenance is a must.  Here are a few reasons why:

Carbon Monoxide is Dangerous

A furnace that is not working properly can allow dangerous carbon monoxide or gas to leak out into the ventilation system, creating a hazardous situation for your family and pets. Dirt or debris can also clog up moving parts, which can cause heat friction or combustion and result in a fire hazard.

A Broken Furnace Leaves You Without Heat

Obviously, the worst time for your heating system to break down is when you need it most. Even in milder climates, an unexpected cold snap or winter storm can send you running to your thermostat for some much-needed heat. You will be wishing you had taken that service contract when you discover that your system is broken.  Routine maintenance checks can catch and repair minor issues before they cause bigger problems.

System Replacement is Expensive

Replacing your furnace is costly, especially when it could have been prevented with maintenance.  Even in moderate climates, the money spent on routine furnace maintenance is a minor expense compared to the cost of purchasing and installing a whole new HVAC system because yours has burned out.
