5 Essential Qualities of a Great HVAC Contractor

December 30, 2014 | Blog

Since your family relies on a heating and cooling system to keep comfortable all year long, it’s clearly worth investing in a reliable HVAC contractor to install the best one for your home. So, how do you find the right contractor for the job?

Look for these five essential qualities when narrowing down your list of options.

Has a Good Reputation

To prevent being a new company’s guinea pig, vow to only work with an experienced contractor with a good reputation. Look for reviews on the Better Business Bureau website, ask how long they’ve been in business and contact referrals for an unbiased opinion about the contractor.

Is Highly Qualified

A reputable HVAC contractor is licensed and insured to assure the homeowner’s safety and lack of liability during an installation or repair. A qualified contractor will also hire technicians certified by North American Technician Excellence. NATE ensures technicians are highly trained and knowledgeable in HVAC system installation, maintenance and repair.

Sells Quality Products

Some contractors don’t keep up with the latest HVAC technology, and therefore, will discourage you from investing in high-efficiency systems because it’s more complicated to install. Steer clear of these contractors and aim instead to work with a company that offers the best Energy Star-rated products.

Knows About Equipment Sizing

Ask prospective contractors how they plan to size your equipment. If they say they base their decision on square footage and climate alone, or on the size of your existing equipment, move on. There’s no guarantee your current system was sized properly the first time, and accurate calculations take much more into account than just square footage and climate.

Offers Competitive Pricing

Expect to find a good deal from a great HVAC contractor, but don’t look for bottom-of-the-barrel prices, or you’ll probably end up with subpar service. Certainly seek price estimates, but only take them into consideration after narrowing down your option to the top three or four qualified contractors.

And whenever possible deal with a locally owned and operated company rather than a corporate owned store to get hometown quality service.

If you’re ready to work with a great locally owned HVAC contractor who can meet or exceed all of your expectations, please contact CCAC, Inc.. We proudly serve Coastal Bend residents with quality and integrity.

Great company. Contacted my current AC company to check on my warranty before charging me anything. Saved me a bunch of money and headache if dealing with anything. Would definitely recommend them and use them again.
