Use Energy Evaluations To Your Advantage

Energy evaluations are among the easiest things that families can do to save money on bills.  As in most areas, Corpus Christi homes lose a significant portion of the air they pay to condition through infiltration and leakage.  This leads to higher energy bills.  A reliable evaluation can deliver solutions that will create savings for years to come.

An energy evaluation will consist of a thorough room-by-room assessment, finding any flaws that make your house energy inefficient.  This could include such things as leaks in window seals, ductwork problems, recessed can lights, or defective equipment.

Blower door tests are among the most common energy evaluations.  This test involves a powerful fan pulling air out of the house and lowering the air pressure within.  Though not noticeable to the naked eye, air flowing through any cracks or openings can be detected with a smoke pencil.

These tests also can be used in conjunction with a thermographic inspection.  This involves using infrared scanning to detect spots in the house that have drastically different temperatures, which tend to be near leaks or cracks that need repair.

Auditors also look at your home’s yearly energy bills to determine whether you are using too much energy.  Taking into consideration how often people are in your home, the average Corpus Christi temperatures throughout the year, and how many rooms are in use, auditors can compare your home to similar households to rate its efficiency.

In order to get the most out of your energy evaluation, have a list of any problems you experience ready when the energy auditor arrives.  If you can tell the auditor specific problems such as certain rooms that are always less comfortable than others or excessive condensation in particular areas, that will give him something to focus on and find solutions for.
