We also want you to know what might be wrong with your system so that you can make an easy fix yourself or know when it’s time to call the team at Mathews CCAC.

Most Common Causes of ACs Blowing Warm Air

If you’ve experienced warm air conditioner air during the hottest months of the year, then you know what a pain it can be to figure out why your AC is acting up. We’ve compiled a list of some of the most common causes of AC systems blowing warm air instead of cool.

Temperature Settings

The first place you should always check is the thermostat. We’ve all been in that situation where mistakes on the thermostat have caused us to be uncomfortable in our homes. Be thorough and double check that your thermostat is set on AUTO and COOL so that the fan inside is blowing chilled air around your home. Sometimes a simple fix like this can make all the difference in the world.

Dirty Air Filters

Your system’s air filters are responsible for removing debris from your air, but that buildup of dust and dirt eventually clogs your filters. They need to be checked and cleaned several times a year to make sure they don’t block the flow of air. When coated air filters don’t allow good airflow, your AC may start to struggle to cool your air properly.

If you feel warm air from your AC unit, your air filters could be in need of a good cleaning or replacement. Luckily, this solution is fairly simple and cheap to fix!

Power Interruption

For AC units that are split systems, both the indoor and outdoor units must be running properly to provide cool air to the home. If there has been a power outage or any electrical miscommunication for the outdoor unit, the air handle inside could just be blowing warm air around with its fan.

Check your home’s electrical panel to make sure no circuits have been tripped, and also check the physical outdoor unit to make sure the power is on.

Frozen Coils

Both the evaporator and condenser coils are important parts of the cooling process. They absorb heat from the air and release it outside. Through this process condensation can be formed. If the moisture is not properly funneled out through drains it can form frost on the coils. The coils can’t do their job and cool your air if they are frozen.

This AC repair is often addressed by professionals because the coils must be thawed before using the unit again. In severe cases this can take up to 24 hours. Frozen coils are often caused by refrigerant leaks as well, so it’s best to have a professional assess the entire issue and make an efficient AC repair.

Refrigerant Leaks

As mentioned above, refrigerant leaks can lead to the entire AC unit benign unable to cool air effectively. Refrigerant liquid is very dangerous, so in the event that your system has one you must trust certified professionals to safely handle the situation.

Great company. Contacted my current AC company to check on my warranty before charging me anything. Saved me a bunch of money and headache if dealing with anything. Would definitely recommend them and use them again.
