While homeowners in other parts of the United States are already preparing their homes for winter, Corpus Christi residents are still looking forward to lots of hot days. Staying on top of your A/C maintenance is essential if you want to keep your utility bills in check, maintain system efficiency and prevent common A/C problems during the last days of the cooling season. These important tasks will help to ensure optimum comfort and system performance.
Check Your Air Filter
Continue to check your air conditioner’s air filter every month, and replace it with a new one when it’s dirty. A clean filter ensures proper airflow throughout your system, prevents dust buildup and helps to keep your indoor air healthy.
Keep an Eye on Your Condenser
Your outdoor unit is home to the condenser coil, which expels heat from your home. When dirt and debris coat the coil, the coil cannot do its job, and the air conditioner is forced to work harder. Hose down your outdoor unit each month. Remove leaves, grass clippings, dirt and other debris from the area around the condenser. You shouldn’t have any plants closer than 2 feet from the condenser. Also make sure the top is unobstructed.
Use Your Thermostat Wisely
Turn up your thermostat a few degrees when you leave the house to save money and reduce the wear on your system. Consider installing a programmable thermostat, which allows you to program settings according to your schedule. When properly used, a programmable thermostat can save you a considerable amount of money on your cooling and heating costs. For even more precise control, consider a smart programmable thermostat, which allows you to monitor your home-comfort systems when you’re away from home.
