Be Heat Ready: Summer HVAC Tips

Summer is upon us and you know what that means — heat, heat, heat! To ensure that you’re prepared, we’ve compiled a few quick summer HVAC tips that will keep your air conditioning system running smoothly and efficiently throughout the season and beyond.

Time for Annual Maintenance

Your air conditioning system is designed to last for a long time, but after a while, its efficiency will go down, which can translate to uneffective cooling andย higher costs in the summer. Schedule annual maintenance with a qualified HVAC technician before the weather gets too warm.

Consider Upgrading Your Cooling System

If your cooling system has been running for a decade or longer, it may be time to consider a full upgrade. The same is true if the system has resulted in high repair costs or simply isn’t working as efficiently as it should. The good news is that even though a good replacement isn’t cheap, newer models are more energy-efficient, which means you’ll save money on utility bills.

Use a Programmable Thermostat

Homes that use manual thermostats or even older digital models aren’t taking advantage of energy savings opportunities. Programmable thermostats allow you to set the days and times when your air conditioning is running, along with the exact temperature you desire. This is a great way to get your energy costs under control without sacrificing comfort.

Cover Up Your Windows

While you can run your air conditioning all day to help you stay coolย if you’d like, the more efficient strategyย is to use the A/Cย in conjunction with window treatments. Each window should have a good set of curtains, drapes, or blinds that will help block out the heat throughout the day. For windows that face the sun during the day, it’s recommended that you use black curtains, which can do a much better job than standard window coverings.
