If you’ve recently added on to your Corpus Christi home, you know that it presents challenges to your existing HVAC system. Duct systems for central air conditioners may not be easy to expand and balance, and the sizing of your central system also has to be taken into account. But there is a way to easily expand your air conditioning and heating, and add flexibility: installing a ductless system.
Ductless mini-splits are heat pumps, which are ideally suited to the South Texas climate. They combine air conditioning and heating into one compact unit, without the need for a separate furnace and air conditioner. When compared to traditional furnaces, they often reach an energy efficiency two to three times as high — which means lower energy bills for you.
A ductless mini-split consists of a small interior unit which can be fixed to the wall of one room, and an external unit which can serve more than one internal. The system is then responsible for heating and cooling only that room, and the spaces attached to it by vents or other air passages. This is convenient if your addition is rarely used, such as a guest bedroom; used on a different schedule than the rest of your home, such as a home office or workshop; or needs to be set to a different temperature, such as a room for an elder relative. The addition can be set to a temperature different from the rest of your home, and the system only run when it needs to be run.
If your Coastal Bend home could benefit from a ductless system, or if you’re interested in exploring an upgrade to ductless systems, heat pumps, or home zoning systems for greater temperature control, don’t hesitate to contact us at CCAC.
