- What’s your home’s heating load? Ask your contractor to explain how your home’s load calculation was performed. It’s not just about the size of your home: its layout, other efficiency upgrades, and even the amount of sun exposure it gets might all need to be factored in.
- Are your ventilation and air handling systems compatible with your new furnace? Your contractor should be able to evaluate your ductwork to make sure that it carried hot air to all areas of your home, and the location of your furnace installation should be well ventilated.
- Is your contractor licensed and insured? These certifications don’t just protect them – they also protect you, as the homeowner, and the owner of this new piece of equipment.
- Do you have a service agreement, and do you understand the terms of your warranty? Keeping your furnace in good repair doesn’t just lower the chance of something going wrong, it also protects you in case something does. Many furnace warranties will not cover any repairs on a furnace that has not been maintained.
