It's Not Too Early To Schedule A/C Maintenance

May 3, 2012 | Blog

A lot of South Texas residents are basking in the spring weather and enjoying the months between winter, when it can get too chilly for the beach, and the dog days of summer. Unfortunately, this weather isn’t going to last forever, so you need to prepare for the summer heat. Now’s the time to go ahead and schedule A/C maintenance.

There are several reasons to perform the maintenance now, rather than wait until the summer.

  • Cheaper – During the spring, demand for HVAC service is lower so the prices are not at the summer premiums. Also, maintenance is scheduled during regular business hours so you don’t run the risk of paying night or weekend rates for an emergency repair.
  • No unforeseen surprises – You know how it goes. Your A/C will wait until we have one of those brutal 100-degree days with crushing humidity and then it will quit on you. Schedule A/C maintenance now so that you’ll know about any potential issues before they become big problems.
  • Increased Efficiency – A properly maintained air conditioner operates much more efficiently and saves you money on utility bills.

Proper spring A/C maintenance will check and repairs these parts of your A/C:

  • Filters – Clean filters can increase efficiency by 15 percent. They should be cleaned or exchanged as often as monthly during the high-use season.
  • Coils – Coils collect dirt and debris over time and must be wiped clean. Otherwise, the buildup will interfere with the coils’ ability to absorb heat and remove it from the air.
  • Fins – Coil fins are easily bent and damaged as the A/C operates. They need to be reshaped and repaired to maintain proper levels of air flow.
  • Condensate Drains – Drains must be cleared annually because debris collects inside and hinders the unit’s ability to control humidity. If moisture in the air cannot escape through the drains, it ends up in your home.
