The winter season brings with it a need to fire up your heating equipment to stay warm, but it’s not just you and your two-legged loved ones who you need to worry about. Maintaining proper home comfort for pets must always be an essential part of the plan, and we’re here to give you some quick tips on how to do that.

Keep Your Equipment Running

If your heating equipment shuts down in the middle of winter, it can be devastating to your family — and even worse for your pets. Either before the season begins or just afterward, hire an HVAC technician for an annual inspection of the system to make sure that it’s running properly. If there are any potential problems, these can be fixed before your home’s comfort is negatively impacted.

Set the Right Temperature

For the most part, our furry friends are comfortable in the same temperatures we are on most days. When you’re home, setting the thermostat between 69 and 72 degrees will work just fine. And when you’re away, don’t let it go lower than 60.

Consider the Size and Fur of Each Pet

Different aspects of your pet will determine their ability to stay warm on their own. Bigger animals or those with thick fur, for instance, will be better off than skinny or short-haired animals. Also, pay attention to older pets or those in bad health, because they will be more susceptible to the cold weather.

If you have pets with short hair, you should definitely pick them up with a sweater or coat for the winter season. Not only is clothing for pets simply adorable, it helps hold in the warmth so that you don’t have to worry about them being too cold when the temperature drops.
